As the brothers pass through the tunnel to investigate the rumours about Mance, he is about to experience the true North for the first time.

King Beyond the Wall
Much is different north of the Wall. Here, the king is not blue-blooded, wears no crown, and demands no courtesy or tribute. He only asks that one follows him south of the Wall, whatever it takes. Jon joins their ranks, as the late Qhorin wished, and starts to slowly gain their trust.

Lord Commander
Jon refuses Stannis’ offer to renounce the Night’s Watch and join him in the battle against the Boltons. After they give Mance to the Lord of Light’s fire, Stannis leaves. Shortly after, Jon is elected Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch and he voices an idea never uttered before: he will go beyond the Wall not to fight wildlings, but to save them from the Night King.
